Many drawing schools and local art and painting workshops focus on over-simplified, copycat procedures. You watch an instructor paint a landscape, try to replicate it, and leave with a painting that looks exactly like everyone else’s.

The problem? You never acquire the actual skills to tackle the subjects you want to paint.

Our curriculum is equivalent to three years of practical university art education condensed into a fun, step-by-step 6-module pathway. We teach you the fundamental why behind the how, empowering you to express your own authentic style.

What You’ll Learn (Even if You’ve Never Touched a Paintbrush)

No prior experience needed. This is your zero-pressure playground to build absolute confidence.

This isn’t a “follow-along and copy me” kind of class. I’ll teach you the why behind the how, so you can eventually paint on your own—confidently and creatively.

You’ll walk away knowing how to:
The 6 Hand Positions & Brush Grips: Learn the difference between a precision surgical grip (Position 1) and loose, gestural holds (Position 2 & 3) to let your brush “dance” across the canvas.Use 38 fun and easy drawing + painting techniques.

Equipment Mastery: Learn how to choose and use your brushes, pencils, and paints with complete ease.Choose and use your brushes, pencils, and paints correctly.

Stop Muddy Paintings: Master basic color theory, limited palettes, tints, tones, and shades so you never end up with “brown mush.” Mix colours that don’t turn into mud (goodbye grey-green nightmares)

Use palette knives to create texture (yes, it’s fun)
Understand light, dark, colour value, and shading.

This is real, step-by-step learning. By the end of the module, you’ll be painting confidently—even if you’re a total newbie today.

Who It’s For

This course is ideal if:
You’re looking for beginner art classes near you.
You’re starting completely from scratch and need proper guidance.
You’ve dabbled, but feel like something fundamental is missing
You want to explore your creativity and build real painting skills. You’re hunting for the best adult art classes in Cape Town that aren’t stuffy or intimidating.

One of the first barriers beginner artists face is looking at a complex subject and feeling overwhelmed.

Observational Scaffolding: Learn to recognize and break down complex subjects into simple, manageable geometry (circles, ovals, dimensional cubes, and cones) using structural and axis lines.
By utilizing structural and axis lines, you build the physical scaffolding of your drawing before adding details, ensuring your proportions are accurate every single time.
